There are some things in life that I can objectively recognize as great and still not get into. With books, it’s Lord of the Rings. With movies, anything by Stanley Kubrick. With video games, Fallout 3. All great works of art that are just not for me. And while I have lots of examples of music like this, none fit this criteria more than Bon Iver.

I can hear the genius in his music. Absolutely. It’s intricate and delicate song-writing, it’s pensive, it’s ethereal, it’s beautiful. And it doesn’t grab me. Maybe it’s too calm (a typical turn-off for me), maybe it’s something else. It’s almost frustrating to be honest, but, well…at least I’ve got plenty of other great music to listen to.
